Manhattan Past Books

Cheapside Street once ran through the block where Knickerbocker Village now stands. It was later renamed Hamilton Street and then closed in 1933 for construction of the housing project. The street extended across the southeast corner of Monroe and Market Streets, forming a large triangular intersection. The ghost of Cheapside Street can still be seen in the form of a jog in the sidewalk along the south side of Monroe.
